The Dark Side!

The end of the movie. The priest has become - THIS GUY!
Even knowing that Rory is only acting here- this scares me.
Right after this photo was taken, Rory had his shoulder surgery, and the recovery process is going well. This is the 3rd shoulder surgery, and THIS time it was done by a professional.

Knowing Rory personally (better than anybody than perhaps Joe Valdez) i know that he has been pretty tough these last 7 years. Lots of injuries and surgery (done badly!). But things are turning around after meeting (at last) a competent doctor. For more than a decade now, Rory has not been on stage. In the meantime, had some injuries and the doctors/surgeons really didn't know what to do. And when the surgeons decided to go ahead with the operations, in 2008 and it became a nightmare.

The top surgeon at USC took on Rory's case and he is repairing the damage inflicted by the incompetency of the previous surgeons.

And knowing Rory, we will now one day see him back on stage where he belongs. He hasn't aged at all- you'll be amazed when he's back in shape- trust me on this one.

Keep watching for further updates. We'll start posting some training photos soon.

And don't forget to leave your comments or questions! A lot your questions are ending up in Rory's email basket, and I really want to encourage everybody to post the questions for everybody to see- right here on the blog. So let's hear from you, ok?

Getting Away

Tree. It'll mean something special to someone- but only that someone will know.

Trees, boat, Gull Lake. By the way- see the seagull??

I don't go to bars- nor do I chase women. But FISH.....
You can take the man out of the city, but you can't take the boy out of the mountains!

My Pal, Glen. Always and forever- testing and tasting the flowers. Addicts never quit.

My little hideout by the lake- near the heavens.

My Pal K.C. Being of asian descent, he was asking me how I Wong my fish. FLIED! (We made sushi)

Sorry for being gone so long. The movie is out of control. Took some time off to go fishing. Will post some pictures. And I have just been asked for my daughter's hand in marriage. (Sasha) I am suspicious that he wants the rest of her as well. Sasha's mom and I are very proud. I still believe in marriage- even though I'm not in one.
This picture is the final phase of my movie character. From Catholic priest to gangster. I'll keep you posted!!

Memorial Day

This is Mark Canerdy. He is one of my best friends. We go back to High School together. He passed one year ago on this day and it makes me feel like a hand without a thumb. We were shooting a movie- "The Last Biker"- and he truly was. Here are some pix.

Mark

Mark, Camera Operator and Me
To all - my condolences. When you are remembering people on Memorial Day, be kind enough to include My Friend, Mark.
As I was leaving his graveside, the radio in my truck started to play "How Far Is Heaven?" Right after that, the very next song: "On The Cover Of The Rolling Stone"! Mark- your sense of humor hasn't changed!!
Always Loving You,
Rory

Questions And Answers

This photo shows a good example of the answer to DL's question.
Send YOUR question in, too! I'd love to hear from you! -Rory

**************************************************************
Today we're answering mail from the mailbox. No, we haven't gone through the Ironman Magazine analysis yet, sorry. Thanks to everybody who wrote comments and questions. Here are your answers:

Q: I recall reading that you're of Dutch/Indonesian parentage.
A: My parents came from Indonesia. I was born in Holland. My bloodline? Russian/Italian/Austrian. Thanks for wondering. I'm still wondering myself!
************************************************************
Q: Uncle!!! Its been a while since Ive seen you! I like the old pic! It brings back old memories! well i wanted to send love from the north! hope to hear from you soon!
A: Well, Mister Ripper! When will I be seeing you?
***************************************************************
Q: RORY IT IS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER EVERYTIME I COME TO VISIT THIS SITE KEEP IT COMING BOSS YOUR SON YOU TRIAN DURING THE WEEK, LETS GET IT DONE...
A: Who IS this?? I'm doing the best I can (and trying to do better!)
***************************************************************
Q: Hi Rory, I have a question. You know how some bodybuilders have legs so huge they can't put them together because of the development inbetween their legs? I heard that this is from working hamstrings. Is this true? In any case, I just want to know how to develop my legs so that I don't have that gap and there is muscle in-between. Thanks- DL
A: DL- that's a legitimate question. And you are right- that is the inner part of your hamstring muscle. Along with the sartorius muscle. To develop this particular area of the quadricep and hamstring and the adjoining muscle groups, do what is called Ballet Squats. Assuming you know how to do a basic squat, this version has toes rotated outward, heels approximately 18 inches apart (separation is based on good balance). This can also be done on a leg press. Thank you for an intelligent question!
****************************************************************
Q: Rory, these great vintage photos you've been posting are not part of any of the compilations of photos of you usually found on the Internet. I'm curious as to why they've been withheld for so long.
A: The reason for this - they've been hidden away for a later date - which is TODAY. I've had these at home, and now I'm putting them on the internet. Hope you like them!
*****************************************************************
Q: Hi Rory,I am a female co-worker of Glen Banks and have a legit question. What type or arm exercises can I do to help build, and or strengthen my veins. I have weak veins but I need to donate blood in approximately one month. Please advise.
A: What you may think of as 'weak veins' because you can hardly see them, is because they are deeper-lying than when they are found in the upper sub-cutaneous layers. Or it may even be that you are anemic. The way to find out is to have a simple blood test taken. Check with your doctor.
********************************************************
Q: you look the same LEIDELMEYER with just a little MEXICAN LOOK!
A: I don't mind the 'Mexican' look, it's the 'LITTLE' that bothers me!!
*********************************************************
Q: Nicky Cruz wrote a book LONLY BUT NEVER ALONE. Can't say I've mastered that at all Rory, but what you wrote here reminded me of Nicky's book.Maybe you should elaborate a little on 'being alone but not lonely'. I think it would help us.God bless
A: To sum it up in one word: Contentment.

At least for the moment.
*******************************************************
Q: GET SOME OF YOUR OTHER WORK OUT FRIENDS ON THE SITE "COACH" GOOD WORK OUT TODAY! KNOW THATS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT ONE HOUR OF FAST AND HARD WORK OUT LETS KEEP IT GOING! NEED ME ON THIS SITE HANGING OUT ONE DAY WITH IRONMAN THE BEST OF ALL THATS BEEN AROUND DIFFERENT GYMS MR. RORY LEIDELMEYER THANKS FOR ALL THE BEST HARD WORK OUTS AT UPTOWN GYM! SEWELL

Q: Great to see a picture of Joe. A lot of old memories. Not all Bad. Just kidding. Hey Rory. T.T.
A: If you're willing to give me your full name, we could reminisce!

Ironman Magazine is OUT

The March issue of IRONMAN has hit the stands! There is a fantastic story titled "The Living Legend", featuring Yours Truly. It's hot off the presses and out now on the stands - I will try to post the magazine article as soon as I can find one. They're moving fast! For any of you who are following me, please give Rod Labbe a congratulation- and any input you may want to - here on the Blog. Let's all get together and fight for an IRONMAN Magazine cover. That's the only American bodybuilding magazine which has not featured me on the the cover in the history of 30 years! Flood the editor with emails and letters. It's not so much being on the cover as it is a tribute to one of the finest magazines in the business!

Joe Valdez

For those who do not know the face, this is Joe Valdez. The man who took 90% of all the bodybuildings that you will ever see of me. Joe was not only a great inspiration, but was also a Father Figure. And to those were lucky enough to have known him, he is and will always be part of my and your lives. I will be writing more about Joe as time marches on....

New Year's Catch Of The Day

Well for those of you who are wondering what Glen looks like, he's the one on the left. Over the years we've become the best of friends, from trainee to workout partner. I congratulate Glen this New Year for not only losing well over 100 pounds of unwanted walrus meat, and allowing me to be a part of his life.

Thought you all might like to know- my favorite hobby is Fishing. It's not catching the fish- it's just catching the moments of deep thoughts and serenity. DAMMIT! But when they're not BITING, I'll try ANYTHING to catch the Big One! If that means dropping my trousers- well then- ok- whatever bait works!!
